Today.
Today I was going to do work. Real work.
A lot of real work. (The kind that pays real money.)
I was also going to clean. A lot.
For absolutely no money whatsoever.
But then.
The sun came out. And the temps leapfrogged into the low 70s.
(For the first time in eight hundred million years.)
And Jasper asked me to go to the park.
(And he’ll only be four years old for about seventeen more seconds.)
It’ll snow this weekend.
My body hurts when it snows.
Soon, no one will ask for my best Boba Fett voice.
(And when a heart breaks, that also makes your body hurt.)
Faced with all of these Very Important Facts (as well as the knowledge that the industry of artistic production and/or baby product review writing will maaaybe survive during my half-day period of non-presence), it was much easier to make the correct choice.
We went to the dang park.
We laid on blankets and ate picnic food from canvas bags and shared a big kid swing (even though that made my equilibrium hurt).
We held hands.
We climbed every last climbing structure- except for the ones for littles, “because we don’t have littles anymore, only bigs.” (Ow.)
Today I got zero work done.
Today was one of the best days I’ve had in a really, really long time.
And I’m pretty sure that today brought me a big ol’ life lesson, which I’ll definitely take some time to mull over later.
Much later.
Maybe after naptime.
(Today is so good.)
