As part of Netflix’s #StreamTeam, I’m pretty much the happiest when I get to give you a heads-up on the newest in their streaming lineup. Or in this case, the oldest. Shall we revisit the Way Back Machine? (Disclaimer: I’m compensated, sure, but all thoughts, opinions, and ecstatic memories are entirely my own.)

Sometimes I feel like Netflix just gets where I’m at in my summer. How else could they know that I’m at the point of “vacation” where I just want to curl up with my kids and watch shows from my own youth? (Yeah, we’re not even two weeks in. I’m not ashamed.)
Here’s what we’re jamming down to with popsicles on a beach blanket and popcorn in the big bed:
Garfield & Friends
Nora: Mom, did you know that Garfield was a show, too?! Let’s watch this all day.
(Uh, yeah. I pretty much lived for the “& Friends” portion. ‘Fraidy Wade with his inner tube- also featuring a ‘fraidy Wade in miniature- is my spirit animal.) Oh, Garfield. Oh, Odie. Oh, Nermal.
Powerpuff Girls
Suzy: I don’t know what’s happening here.
Nora: This is incredible.
Me: What’s this show about?
Nora & Suzy: I don’t know.
Nora: It’s my favorite.
(Honestly, what else do you need to know? Maybe geared for your slightly older kids- because they definitely bandy the word “stupid” about once an episode or so- but it needs to eventually be part of the canon. Adorable, teensy, superhero girls saving the day…and shooting flames out of their eyes.)
Inspector Gadget
Nora: Penny is the best part.
Suzy: The dog is the best part.
Okay, fine, it’s a reboot. But Penny, people. Any show from my youth which features a reimagined young heroine without whom the Inspector himself could barely get out the door? Would you like a little female empowerment with your Slush Puppie?
And the lineup continues. Friends, what shows are you stoked to introduce to your kids/seek out for rediscovery on Netflix for your late-night viewing? (‘Cause hey, Slush Puppies come in vodka, too.) Let me know. Then go outside- because it’s Fresh Air Season, people. Then come back inside a little later.
(It’s Lounge on the Floor Season, too. And it’s gonna be a great one.)
