Hasbro Wins Christmas Morning
My loves, in this- our second giveaway for this week- I’m kind of ecstatic to offer up my three favorite Hasbro games. And if your kids (or you, I don’t judge) are anything like my “big” kids, these Hasbro games are pretty much going to be the Christmas presents they open and play with immediately. Let’s begin.
Elefun & Friends Hungry, Hungry Hippos
Did you play this game as a child? Would you happily play it now? (Against me? You will lose.) There’s absolutely nothing not to love about the thwacking and feeding of those questionably starving mammals. It’s instant gratification at its finest, and rather adorable, too. And it’s been the recipient of a modern makeover; these hippos are besties with the Elefun whom preschool parents already know and love, and this game features easy cleanup and storage of the marbles (which my Mama probably would’ve enjoyed back in ’86), and a NEW WAY TO WIN. Sure, you could chomp the most marbles, but if you keep an eye out for the golden marble you can win the whole shebang. This update is sweet and seriously, seriously fun to play.
(Best suited for ages 4 & up, 2-4 players, retails for approximately $19.99)
Battleship
My big sis and I rocked this game as tweens (back before “tween” was a thing) and, depending on which niece or nephew we gift it to, will most likely do so on Christmas morning this year as well. The classic naval strategy game is still the best quiet time activity around, as there’s lots of built-in staredown time while guessing your opponent’s ship placement and keeping a poker face about your own fleet. Good Lord, I’m so glad this game is back in my house again. (I’m sure my sister will be, too, even though she occasionally cheats. No one has a winning streak that solid. No one.)
(Best suited for ages 7 & up, 2 players, retails for approximately $14.99)
Simon Swipe
This will be the new crown jewel of our game collection, you guys. A twist on the ridiculously great Simon of my youth, the updated Swipe features technology that your kiddo probably already dominates. Now we’ve got four games, sixteen levels, the ability to tap or swipe, and patterned gameplay that would make a pretty darned wonderful backseat car trip companion. (I’m just saying.) And here’s the thing: my five year-old does rather well with the early levels (and I can easily see her speeding up as she gets the hang of it), and I- as someone slightly older than that- would cheerfully sit in the corner and play this for days. Seriously, just give me the chance.
(Best suited for ages 8 & up- or savvy technophile preschoolers- 1 player (or a group!), retails for approximately $19.99)
