Disclaimer: As an ambassador for Goldfish Swim School, I’m oh-so happy to regale you with the gals’ experiences for all things aquatic…and give you the down low on this snazzy joint. While our lessons have been comped, I receive no other compensation and my opinions are super strictly my own. But you probably already knew that.

I am good at many things.
I am really, really bad at so, so, so many more things. Like, abysmally bad. Embarrassingly bad. Cutting my bangs is one of those things. Keeping my feelings hidden is another.
Swimming is a third. I am a simply awful swimmer.
That said, my kids need to know how to swim. That’s a painfully obvious, non-debatable, functional human being life skill. But I sure as heck can’t teach them. (And ritzy though I ain’t, some of the pool facilities ’round my neighborhood give me the mental itchies, you know?)
Nora and Susannah are comfy in the water. This is due to a) a wonderful family friend spending time with them in my parents’ pool each week over the summer teaching the basics, and b) my overprotective predilection towards padding them in layers of Coast Guard-approved flotation devices. Which, as we can all agree, is not a totally sustainable lifestyle choice. (Neither, coincidentally, is the first part, since my folks are located in Massachusetts AND it’s about to be all New England chilly up in that joint. Brr.)
So I was thrilled to partner with Goldfish Swim School in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood for some age and level-appropriate lessons in a warm, clean, shiny, friendly atmosphere. I am loving on this place, guys. Here’s why:
- Kids (ages 4 months and up) can swim year-round in this heated (90 degree water!) facility.
- The classes are teensy- the max is four kids per teacher!
- Did I mention how clean it is? They have a state-of-the-art pool water purification filter, too.
- The air-conditioned viewing gallery for parents and sibs to watch the classes is a bonus.
- It’s adorable as heck. The tropical decor kinda (lotta) makes me wish for a Mai Tai while watching my little mermaids.
- The lifeguard staff is friendly, attentive, and Red Cross-certified.
- Most importantly? Nora and Zu are having a magnificent time while learning water safety and swimming skills.
And isn’t that the whole darned point?
Besides, the more people who can eventually lifeguard for me, the better.
