My Sis Does A Chicago FlyBy.

My youngest sister Emma came for a visit this past weekend; an all-too-short trip wherein I think we spent roughly eleven hours eating. Here are some highlights (of the trip, not the food):

-Having my daughters crawl all over Em for 48 hours, thinking that everything she touches and says and does is actual, frameable art. (P.J. and I decided that Emily = Nanny-Era Keely, in terms of ability to be fun and awesome with children. This did not make me feel terrific about my own motherhood, but I had to concede that she’s a fairly incredible aunt.)

It’s like a clown car up in here.

-Using a Lululemon gift card that I’ve had for over a year now (long story) to buy the most expensive hoodies known to man, and NOT having a panic attack about a $100 hoodie because- as she repeatedly pointed out to me- it’s a gift card. And then spending an hour agreeing that said hoodies were the most glorious hoodies known to [wo]man. And then watching her not hit me when I circled back around to almost panicking about the price tag. (ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS, YO.)

-Going to an Anthropologie and not buying over-priced (lovely) stuff…but we did sneak a picture of me in front of a gigantic papier mache elephant, all the while insisting that I needed a gigantic papier mache elephant in my living quarters.

-Taking her to a Julius Meinl coffeeshop for the very first time where, after debating ordering a linzer torte for roughly nine hours, she proceeded to not get one.

-Having her meet and chill and snuggle with Jasper, who pretty much thought she was a great, if a slightly different-looking version me.

“If that’s you taking the picture…then who’s holding me?!”

-Watching a movie with drinks and snacks and multiple devices available for the registering of (her) wedding gifts and gawking of (my) Lululemon future hoodies. (Multitasking at its first world finest!)

-Taking her to Lincoln Square and lunch at…Potbelly. (Welcome to Chicago, kid! Enjoy this nationwide chain!)

-And then that time when she left and I already missed her and wished she’d come back soon.

Em and Keely

Oh, wait, that’s non-visit-specific.

(Sigh.)
