Temps reached nearly 60 degrees the other afternoon and the entirety of Chicago celebrated by throwing away their shoes. So, obviously, today is blizzarding. Since all the stuff you probably wanted to do got cancelled, here’s some light reading material.
Things You Need To Know (Because I Wrote Them):
- It’s true. I’m a hoarder. 100 Things? I can’t even manage 100 words.
- Susannah is now an un-caged monkey. Lock up yo’ bananas.
- Like free theatre tickets? How about TWO PAIRS of theatre tickets?!
- Over at Chicago Parent, I gave up yelling at my kids for Lent. Stop laughing.
Things You Need To Know (That I Didn’t Write):
- Over at Strawdog Theatre Company’s Hugen Hall, Best Beloved: The Just So Stories opened this past Monday. Devised by the Forks & Hope Ensemble, this new work- collected from Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories For Little Children– features a troupe of magical creatures who come alive from Kipling’s book and comfort a grieving young mother whose pain parallels that of Kipling’s loss of his own daughter, the original inspiration for these tales. Alternately funny and poignant, this production brings to life characters and fables we all know and love- and illustrates the healing power of storytelling. Here’s everything else you need to know.
- This Friday- March 14th- is the 2nd Annual Chicago Strike Out Pediatric Cancer PCF Bowlathon. Founded in 2008 by Eric Greenberg Goldy (now a high school senior), this marks the second time this awesome charity has taken place in our lovely town. And not only is it a terrific way to raise money (over 140k so far!), but this family-friendly event promises to be super fun: bowling (with bumpers for the littles and/or truly awful bowlers), bake sale, raffles, food & drink, and best of all, all proceeds will go directly to the Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago to further groundbreaking research in the field of pediatric cancer. You guys. For $50 (which includes bowling, refreshments, shoe rental and your donation to PCF), you can do something awesome at Lucky Strikes Lanes here in Chicago. Go here for more deets. I love everything about this.
And an across-the-interwebs high-five to my Dad, Dave “Shut Up About My Chemo, Keely” Flynn. Ain’t no one in the world who does it better than you, Pop. (And I define “it” as guitar-shredding, pancake-flipping, cancer-obliterating awesomeness.) So keep doing what it is you do.
And yes, now I’m done.
For now.
I love you, Dad.
Okay, now I’m done.
(For now.)
