I know for a fact that a few of you have heard this story. Like, literally heard the involved cries within the greater Chicagoland area on the actual day of occurrence. Well, I’ve brought it back because I was inspired by NickMom’s fabulous 2.6 Seconds Before The Family Holiday Picture cartoon. (Have you played around on the NickMom.com site? You really oughta.) So here’s my story of holiday awesomesauceitude: They were playing so nicely together. Well, “playing” is a relative term, {Read More}
November Date: Riveting Theatre And Tasty Frites.
Betcha didn’t think we’d have a November Date Night, didja? (Well ha. ‘Cause…almost me neither.) But date we did! After securing our trusty high school sitter- her school play finally ended, SHEESH theatre people- P.J. whisked me out (after we fed and jammied our girls) for a surprise evening of…theatre. Because, seriously, a calendar year of dates in the city of Chicago with nary one staged play? TRAVESTY. I was thrilled to realize we were heading to the Neofuturarium (which was, incidentally, one {Read More}
Sickness With And Without Kiddos: A Primer.
With a few notable exceptions, being sick changes once someone is home with kids. It just does. Here’re some scenarios: You wake up in the morning, sick as a dog. If you’re sans kids: First, ask yourself if you’re just hungover. Yes? If so, pop an Alkaseltzer, go back to bed, and remember how awesome it was to go out the night before and drink and socialize and not pay a babysitter. (Now shh, we’re done here. DONE.) Not hungover? {Read More}
Recap. Yes, Still On A Wednesday.
I know, you’re thinking: It’s Wednesday, what on Earth has Keely been up to? (You’re in good company. My Mom’s been thinking that for decades.) The truth is: I’ve been doing a lot of laundry. Sanitizing my children. (And/or watching the heck outta this new show I found on Netflix. GOODNESS, but I love me some detective series.) But, elsewhere. Why On Earth Is She Recapping On A Wednesday, Anyhow: Thursday’s blog was my lazy rendition of those awesome daily thankful statuses. {Read More}
I’m Totally Having A Boy. Unless I’m Not.
All signs point to the fact that I am- definitely- carrying a boy: I’ve got a basketball-like belly, I seem to be gaining weight differently (THANKS, random passersby!), and I’ve been having nonstop dreams about my son. Except. I’m pretty sure most 35 week bellies are round. My weight gain is directly proportional to the fact that I couldn’t keep anything down until 21 weeks. (If I weren’t pregnant, I’d tout it as the best diet/cleanse of my entire life.) And I only {Read More}
Wonders Of The 1893 World’s Fair (Or: Another Reason To Love Chicago).
I love living in Chicago. I love that I’m raising my family in Chicago. (In fact, the only thing that I do not love about Chicago is its tendency to have “winter” equate to “half of the year. Digression.) And one of the absolute best things about this town is its fantastic museums- namely The Field Museum. And so I jumped at the chance to check out The Field’s newest exhibit- Opening The Vaults: Wonders Of The 1893 World’s Fair. (Doubly {Read More}
Grateful.
There’s so much to be thankful for. Even though I cannot- for the life of me- manage those daily posts about gratitude. (Perhaps it entirely defeats the purpose, but the idea of adding one more mandatory task to my to-do list fills me with twitches. Happy Thanksgiving!) But I can manage the occasional happy-go-lucky post…and I hope [the curmudgeons amongst] you can manage to read it without eye-rollage. Let’s begin. I am so grateful for my friends; here in Chicago, in {Read More}
Wednesday Recap…And Some Wishing.
I know- you’re excited. It’s time for the Weekly Wednesday Recap (of stuff that didn’t necessarily happen this week). Yes. Enjoy. Thursday brought a belly pic. Mine, that is. On Friday, my review for Emerald City Theatre’s Rapunzel went live. For the second time. Enjoy! Also on Friday, I tried out some frozen deliciousness from Good Food Made Simple– and now I’m hooked. YUM. Sunday- yes, on Sunday, the craziness– I talked about my sister Emily’s penchant for destruction (on behalf of {Read More}
