Catcall.

The other day, I was catcalled by a construction worker. I also happened to be holding my 2 year-old son. As my brain swirled with righteous indignation, anger at the classlessness of objectifying a woman in front of her small male child, and the witty retorts that I’d been saving up since the last time I was catcalled on a construction site… My son lost it. Lost it. “Hiiii DIGGERS, hiiii! Mama, see diggers? A crane! A scoop! Dumpppppppp TRUCK!” {Read More}

2 to try: Mexican food edition.

Here’s a big ol’ fact: I’m crazy about Mexican food. Like, I can be bought for some queso. During each pregnancy, I was convinced that my emerging children would be comprised entirely of tamale. Another factoid: My family lives in a largely Mexican neighborhood. The food is ridic. So amazing, mind you, that we rarely stray for spicier pastures. Third truth: In the past month alone, I’ve been invited to bring the fam to two establishments outside of the Albany/Irving {Read More}

New Pearachute deals, just in time for summer (camp)!

Disclosure: As a Pearachute ambassador, I’m happier than a kid with a new box of sidewalk chalk to share our Chicagoland adventures with this marvelous activity-tastic app. Although I’m being compensated, all thoughts, opinions, and introverted children are entirely my own. *** Hey, it’s totally almost summer! (Get back to your desk- I said almost.) Thinking about camps and classes for your little ones? You are so not alone. And the good folks at Pearachute have you covered with new {Read More}

Tick tock, Springfield: Chicago Public Schools are crashing & burning.

Chicago has a problem. Truth be told, Chicago has many problems, but aside from gun violence, political nepotism, and the inability to moderate debauchery on [the Saturday before] St. Patrick’s Day, the biggest problem is the state of the public schools. After devastating, city-wide cuts earlier this year (during which time our arts-focused CPS lost one of its art teachers), it was recently announced that a further slashing of up to 30% is looking pretty darned imminent. For my kid’s {Read More}

Bouncing around town with Pearachute (and a new discount code)!

Disclosure: As a Pearachute ambassador I receive- among other things- comped classes, but all thoughts, opinions, and beautifully tired children are entirely my own. (Make sure to scroll to the bottom for a crazy-awesome discount code!) *** I’ll admit it: between Easter travels and Spring Break non-travels, I haven’t been the greatest Pearachute sharer in the world. That changes now. I joked to Erica, V.P. of membership, that our Pearachute account is the 6th family member. (You know, the one {Read More}

Suzy joins forces with Princess Awesome- and looks rad doing so.

Disclosure: This is a sponsored review by the superb clothing company Princess Awesome, but all thoughts, opinions, and ecstatic daughters are entirely my own. *** Let me let you in on a little secret: I absolutely adore brands which promote strong, brilliant, givin’ not a care for gender norms kiddos. And when they happen to make gorgeous clothing, it’s even better. (And no, those two things are not at odds.) I absolutely adore Princess Awesome. Did you think I invented {Read More}

In “Pearachute About Town” News: Nora and Susannah rocked a Minnow class at the British Swim School. {Read More}

TodayTix, easy theatergoing & free Mary Poppins tickets!

Disclosure: Although I’ve been compensated by TodayTix, all thoughts, opinions, and rabid ticket-reserving of Second City shows are entirely my own.  *** You live in Chicago. Ergo, you’ve seen- and dug- live theatre. Oh wait, this is where I say that I’ve got something pretty great to tell my fellow Chicagoans. TodayTix The body count of great shows (at any given time, concerning any given subject, aimed at any given age range) is astounding. And paying less for great things is {Read More}
