I like to think that I’ve done a good job this week, what with the beginning of kindergarten and all. As in- I allowed Nora to go and she’s currently there as we type and, to the best of my knowledge, I’ll be okay with her going again (for the next 12 years). It’s weird: I’ve definitely found myself missing her at odd moments of the day, and staring at my phone while being incredibly certain that the school will call with {Read More}
The art of the putter.
I’m a proud putterer. My favorite kind of days are the ones where I can amble from room to room, task to task, feel like I’m slooooowly getting everything done, and become quietly inspired along the way. If I don’t have to get dressed, awesome. If there’s nothing urgent on the schedule, even awesomer. It’s not laziness- not entirely- and not antisocial behavior- pretty much not entirely- instead, it’s a reveling in the ability to organize, perch on the corner {Read More}
Just the bullet points, folks.
This week has been mentally, physically, psychologically, and culinarily exhausting. (Okay, I just threw that last one in there for fun. Our food situation has been just fine.) But here are the highlights: The girls have attended half-day vacation bible school with a bunch of their friends this week; even though we really haven’t been going to church a ton lately, Nora and Suzy certainly know enough to hold their own in a super-chill camp environment of the spiritual variety…but {Read More}
Dating My Five Year-Old.
Here’s the truth. I wasn’t feeling so marvelous this weekend, emotionally speaking, but I feel entirely 1000% like not talking about that right now. So I will tell you about the absolute high point of the past few days: having a date with my biggest kid. Let’s back up. For Mother’s Day, I had received some pretty spiffy gift cards from my two oldest girls (and I use “oldest” as a relative term, as they’re 3 and 5). More truth time: my {Read More}
Re-entry. And Insults From The Preschool Set.
Re-entry is always hard; re-entry when you already miss your Dad like a limb and think your Mom’s cooking and hospitality puts the world’s top B&Bs to shame is even harder. Luckily, I have my husband and children to welcome me back to the homestead (for at least a week and half). I mean, who cares if the baby boy awakens mid-car ride from a nap to find you’ve returned from your week away and freaks out like Mothra herself {Read More}
Back When P.J. Was The Favorite. Again. (And Still.)
I happened upon this post about my kids’ favorite parent from about three years ago, and it resonated. Oh, how it resonated. Because recently, Jasper has decided that only P.J. will do in terms of bedtime and mealtime and bath time and awesometime. Don’t get me wrong, I understand (and appreciate) the appeal of Fun Time Philip, but I do wonder if Jasper had only been using me for my boobs all that time. (When will I learn?) So I thought {Read More}
Nora’s Best-Ever Birthday a.k.a. Thanks, Wishcraft Workshop!
Disclaimer: I was provided with a complimentary birthday party for N.J. in exchange for a series of social media blitzes on behalf of The Wishcraft Workshop. But here’s the thing- I approached THEM with the idea, since I’m a rabid fan and pretty much in love with this place and everything they do. So obviously, all thoughts, opinions, and glue-covered children are my own. And photos are courtesy of Lucy Cummins/Lucy See Photography. Good stuff all around, guys. *** I’ve {Read More}
A Case Of The Mondays.
Due to Birthday Month, Halloween week, classroom parties galore, a snowstorm on Trick or Treat, a few minor cases of the sniffles, Daylight Savings Time, and the hotly argued arrival of the Halloween Witch*(?!) who came and took the rest of the household candy, this is the atmosphere ’round my home this fine Monday morning. Happy Monday morning, everyone. *P.J. completely made up the concept of the Halloween Witch**, who removes candy from the homes of smallish children who repeatedly {Read More}
