I love living in Chicago. I love that I’m raising my family in Chicago. (In fact, the only thing that I do not love about Chicago is its tendency to have “winter” equate to “half of the year. Digression.) And one of the absolute best things about this town is its fantastic museums- namely The Field Museum. And so I jumped at the chance to check out The Field’s newest exhibit- Opening The Vaults: Wonders Of The 1893 World’s Fair. (Doubly {Read More}
Grateful.
There’s so much to be thankful for. Even though I cannot- for the life of me- manage those daily posts about gratitude. (Perhaps it entirely defeats the purpose, but the idea of adding one more mandatory task to my to-do list fills me with twitches. Happy Thanksgiving!) But I can manage the occasional happy-go-lucky post…and I hope [the curmudgeons amongst] you can manage to read it without eye-rollage. Let’s begin. I am so grateful for my friends; here in Chicago, in {Read More}
Trick Or Treat Or Soaking Wet Kids.
Happy Halloween! Love, The dragon, the pumpkin, at least two pairs of rain boots, and the drizzliest Trick or Treat Chicago has ever known.
October Date: Public Radio & Copious Amounts Of Sugar.
I know I say this a lot… …But yesterday, Peej really knocked October’s Date Night outta the park, what with his at times-irksome habit of knowing me maddeningly well. He took me to the Chef Battle: Dessert Edition- an NPR-sponsored event with crazy dessert tasting stations from some simply amazing Chicago restaurants (and plenty of palate-cleansing stations with cheese and nuts and…pulled pork sliders) and an open bar (sigh). Here’s what we devoured: Clockwise, from top left: Hong Kong milk {Read More}
Being A Pollyanna (And Wrapping Up The Week).
At the risk of sounding like a Pollyanna, I’d like to start off my week with a list of things for which I’m utterly grateful. I mean, couldn’t hurt, right? (Since I think we all know what it feels like to wake up and [angrily] marvel yet again at the sound of the alarm…and necessity to DO things…and and and…) (Side note: Remember the Made For TV movie Polly, which was a 1950s adaptation of Pollyanna and starred Keshia Knight Pulliam? Man, that {Read More}
September Date: Loitering In Logan Square.
September’s Date Night took us to Logan Square- which is located roughly 15 blocks south of us on the same street. (‘Cause there’s something to be said about not having the entirety of the Date Night consist of the commute.) We started out at the stellar City Lit bookstore- a place where, upon walking in, I needed to buy roughly half of their shelved stock. That mystery I’ve been dying to read. The last in that [slightly embarrassing] series I’ve been desperate {Read More}
Eating Apples In A Field. (Etc.)
First things first: welcome to my new bloggy home. (Yay, WordPress!) Nicer neighborhood, same shabby wicker furniture. Thanks to Vanita at The Strategic Mama for making the move so awesome. She’s good people. (She’s patient people, people.) And thanks to P.J. for helping me do such important things like tweak color choices. Because- I never promised to be the easiest wife to deal with at midnight. Second things…third, I guess. (Math!) It is now officially Fall. So we celebrated by eating {Read More}
Seeing Sporting Events In Tiny Little Spurts.
On Labor Day, we took the girls to a Cubs game (Susannah’s first, Nora’s second) and had a terrific time. Even though- due to the ol’ law of If You Need To Be Somewhere, Your Kids Will Nap For Seven Hours- we only managed to see a few innings. Still terrific. Because there was a train ride with Ohmygoodness I CAN SEE OUT THIS WINDOW views of [a different part of] the city. And, after the girls figured out that {Read More}
